General Information
In alternate years the Potomac Fiber Arts Guild, Inc., offers a grant of up to $1000 to a Guild member to assist in her/his technical and aesthetic development in the fiber arts. Any Guild member who has been a member in good standing for at least 1 year is eligible to apply. Financial need is not a consideration. Both beginning and advanced fiber artists are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must submit a written proposal for a specific project that will contribute both to the applicant’s personal growth in the fiber arts and also enrich the Guild. Images of the applicant’s previous work are required to indicate the style, direction, and interests of the applicant to date.
Any topic in the fiber field may be proposed. The proposal may include requests for travel funds, tuitions and registrations, fiber supplies, film, video tape, and other relevant support. Equipment is given low priority.
The grantee is selected by a reviewer who is qualified and well regarded in the field of fiber arts and/or art education and is not a member of the Potomac Fiber Arts Guild. All proposals are coded by the Grants Coordinator to protect the anonymity of the applicants. The name of the grant recipient and project is announced to the Guild; all other applicants remain anonymous. Winning proposals are collected in a notebook housed in the Guild library.
Upon conclusion of the project or within 12 months of accepting the grant, whichever comes first, the grantee must arrange with the Guild’s Program Chair to present the results of the study to the Guild. This may be in the form of a talk, lecture, workshop, exhibit, publication, and/or other appropriate form of presentation. Notebooks detailing the work may be donated to the Guild library if appropriate.
Failure to complete the proposed study or to arrange for a report to the Guild within 1 year of the award date will require the grantee to return the grant funds to the Potomac Fiber Arts Guild.
Proposals not accepted may be resubmitted in following years; however, grant recipients may not apply for consecutive grants.
